Western Victoria has lost popular trainer Warren Bird (pictured here working a horse at Stawell on a wintry day some years ago), who passed away on Wednesday October 16.

Warren trained from his Great Western Property and had a number of good horses.

Among those horses were trotter Alba Foyle, making the final of the 2001 Trotting Inter Dominion. Alba Foyle won 14 races during her career with the highlight being the South Australian Trotters Cup.

Warren also had Miss Athens, who won a number of races before going to stud to produce Brallos Pass, who has won over $350,000.

Trotter Death Defying was another of Warren's horses, winning Stawell Horse of the Year in 2013 with three wins and a number of placings during the season.

Warren also helped pre-train the mighty little filly Gumdrops and was thrilled to see her go on to win over $250,000.

Warren and his wife Leah have continued to own horses with Hot Breakfast still racing in Warren’s red, white and black colours for his much-loved St Kilda Football Club.

A memorial service will be held at the Stawell Harness Racing Club this Wednesday October 23 commencing at 1pm.
