Sugars to be remembered this Saturday night at Melton

Saturday night’s metropolitan meeting at Melton Entertainment Park will be dedicated to the memory of the late Greg Sugars, with the running of a race and special tributes to be staged in his honour throughout the evening.

The Vale Greg Sugars Free For All has been scheduled as race five on the card at 7.30pm, with trainer/wife Jess Tubbs to have Triple Eight, Rocknroll Hammer and Better Eclipse in the event.

Drivers will be asked to wear black armbands throughout the meeting, with a reflection ceremony and minute’s silence to take place between races four and five from 7.05pm.

Red and green ribbons – the colours of Sugars’ driving suit – will be offered to participants should they wish their horses to adorn them in races.

Sugars passed in New South Wales over the weekend, shattering news that was felt across the globe, having been widely regarded as one of Australia’s greatest drivers after a 25-year career that boasted more than 4000 wins.
