The first few steps will be critically important in tonight's two-year-old standing start says trainer Andy Gath, who joined Talking Trots on Track to give key insights ahead of tonight's Bendigo trots.

Amid a first hour that also featured reinsman Greg Sugars, trainer Patrick Ryan and race caller Lachie McIntosh, Gath shared with hosts Jason Bonnington and Blake Redden the chances of his runners in the Gold Central Victoria 2YO Trotters Handicap.

The fourth race on tonight's program, which can be enjoyed on Trots Vision at 8pm, features two Gath runners, with Six Nations to start from gate one and War Dan Strikes from gate six.

"Six Nations has got very good manners," Gath said of his first starter. "He's been here for a little bit now. He trialled quite well the other day, even though the time wasn't that great he finished off fairly good, fairly strong.

"He's probably going a little too early to the races, but in the time we're in you sort of have to take each race when they are presented in front of you. He's got a good draw, he's got good manners and he's got good ability, so if he steps away and does everything right there's no doubt he can run top three."

War Dan Strikes was fourth on debut at Kilmore when he raced roughly at the start but Gath said he was "more advanced than (Six Nations) at this stage"

"He's had about three or four trials, and his last trial was the mobile trial when he pushed Illawong Moonbeam to a short half-head, which is good form," Gath said. "Obviously Jason Lee and Paddy Lee's horse is a little bit unknown, it's very short in the market so obviously it's got plenty of ability as well.

"Tricky race two-year-old standing starts, you sort of have to got to hit the ground running. You saw how quick they went at Kilmore and at Maryborough, I think both times they ran the last mile under 2:01. You have to step away quick in these races, both of mine if they can do that they are winning hopes."

Reinsman Greg Sugars joined the program earlier and broke down race five, the Sandhurst Stockfeeds Pace.

He will steer Barbie Mattgregor for trainer Dylan Marshall and was optimistic about their chances.

"Barbie's going terrific without much luck at the moment," Sugars said. "That's her racing pattern, she's going to be unlucky more times that she will be lucky unfortunately.

"It's a good draw (gate one), she has the gate speed to use it. She will put herself hopefully in the right spot and I do give her a big hope on her recent form of prevailing on top tonight."

Trainer Patrick Ryan also gave a big push for Dizzysjet in the last, the Aldebaran Park 3YO Trot, with his runner to start inside the inside back row behind Dreamee.

"Absolutely (a winning chance)," Ryan said. "I rate Dizzysjet, I think she is a very nice filly going forward. She had a few little injury problems in her two-year-old career and early on in her three-year-old, but we seem to be on top of those at the moment. She's trotting really good.

"Sitting behind Dreamee ... would be perfect, because he will naturally run along a bit anyway. (Dizzysjet) does get home really good, she's strong and she's got good speed. I'm not really scared where we sit, as long as it all goes well early."

Tonight's race caller Lachie McIntosh also joined Jason and Blake to give his best bets for tonight's racing. Tune in below to relive today's interviews.
