The trials circuit delivered an hour of power at Maryborough this week when consecutive runs caught the eye and were performances worthy of following.

Trials five and six on November 28 both produced blackbookers, with first Tarifa Girl putting in a blazing finish to clear out and win by 20 metres, and then Wisp Of Smoke laying down a "sensational" 30-metre victory in the following trial.

SHEPPARTON 25/11/21

Trial 1: - RACING DREAM trailed the leader, moved away from the inside on the home turn and finished off solidly to win the trial by a comfortable margin. He has been performing nicely at the trials and could have a good campaign. He met a reasonable field and finished a close third at Kilmore on Thursday night. SHEZ BETTOR’S BABE began fast and ran to the lead shortly after the start. She rolled along at a reasonable tempo and battled on well in the run to the finish. ALIZA HILL (Racing Hill – Abstract Lady 1.57.4, $27,170) settled three back on the markers and was being urged along with 500m remaining but held down third position. She finished last of the nine runners at her debut performance at Kilmore on Thursday night. CHEROKEE JOE (American Ideal – Little Red Cloud 1.52.0, $170,042) was without cover and last early, pushed forward and found a position four back on the markers and battled on fairly late. He beat home VILLA BETTYBOO (Betting Line – Village Glow 2.0.0, $79,828), which settled last early and wanted to race a little roughly but got around KENYA KNOT (I’m Stately – Jades Pride) mid-race. KENYA KNOT wanted to race greenly and lost ground from fourth to be the last one to cross the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.0            Last Half: - 59.3                Margins: - 6m, 15m

Trial 2: - SPRING IN HIS STEP is a very smart pacer and completely dominated his rivals. He began quickly to lead, rolled along at a handy tempo then accelerated beautifully over the concluding stages to win by a big margin. He returns from a break at Melton tomorrow night in a heat of the Rothacker Championship. NIGHT SCHOOL settled three back on the inside behind SCORCHA and came to the outside with 300m remaining. He was just able to nose out that pacer in the run to the judge. FLINGANDWINGIT was last of the four runners to greet the judge but the trotter was taking on some very good pacers and did well to finish as close as he did in fast time. He returns from a break in the Group 3 R C Freestone Trotters Free For All at Melton tomorrow night.

Mile Rate: - 1.59.1          Last Half: - 56.3                Margins: - 20m, Nose

Trial 3: - CHRISKEN KIOSK settled behind the leader, made a move at the 900m mark but broke stride momentarily and dropped back to third. He raced away from the inside for the remainder of the journey but was good enough to kick on in the home straight and gain the upper hand. He is nicely drawn at Yarra Valley on Monday afternoon but his manners are the key to his result. SONNUMBERONE (Majestic Son – Onlyonewoman 2.2.6, $55,550) was three back on the inside and was the first to make a move at the 900m, being out three horses wide momentarily before CHRISKEN KIOSK galloped. He moved up to hit the lead on the turn but CHRISKEN KIOSK just got the better of him late. MYNAMESGRAHAM began quickly to lead and set up a slow tempo. He finished third ahead of ARISTOTLE (Orlando Vici – Miss Clevelle), which galloped at the start and gave away a big start. He did a good job to tack onto the group at the bell but the effort took a toll and he lost ground again late.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.2            Last Half: - 60.0                Margins: - Head, 8m

UNKNOWN SON started his career with Jess Tubbs and showed ability but was very wayward. He went up to Queensland with Graham Dwyer, where he won three races at Albion Park and he is now back in Victoria with Dennis Grieve. He finished second with PROSTHESIS being a distant third. Mile Rate: - 2.5.3            Last Half: - 61.4                Margins: - 1m, 60m

Trial 3: - ELECTROJET used the Bacchus Marsh trials as a stepping stone to her performance at Melton on Wednesday. She won the trial easily but she unfortunately could only manage seventh at Melton after she trailed the leader and was held up for a run at a vital stage. AMUNET galloped in the Breeders Crown Graduate Trot at her latest attempt and lost her chance. She finished second in the trial ahead of REJUVENATE, which broke stride and was stood down at her latest performance. He is scheduled to compete at Ararat on Tuesday night. BAARLINEE was fourth past the post and was able to beat home FUN ON RUM with ANOTHER NIP being in sixth. Mile Rate: - 2.4.0            Last Half: - 60.5                Margins: - 15m, 6m

Trial 4: - MAJUCKTE raced in a heat of the Breeders Crown on debut and was never a chance after a slow getaway. She is out of the former handy mare Veruckte Phoenix, which had her quirks but won five races from limited opportunities and MARUCKTE does appear to have ability also. She is meeting a few handy performers at Geelong this evening. IMA WALKERVILLE finished a distant second but was well clear of the qualifier WHATYADOIN (Wishing Stone – Miss Hickward).

Mile Rate: - 2.4.8            Last Half: - 61.5                Margins: - 40m, 30m

Mile Rate: - 2.0.7            Last Half: - 58.5                Margins: - 1.5m, 8m

Trial 6: - MEROLAMAGIC has a lot of ability but is still learning. He raced wide in the final circuit when fifth at his latest race track appearance and won the trial on Saturday by a large margin albeit in slow time. PEDANTIC has been unplaced in four starts since a victory at Maryborough in September but finished in second position, thirty metres behind the winner. UNION BOSS was third past the post and the qualifier ROCKATOKA (Auckland Reactor – Rocka Hula 2.1.3, $15,104) failed to complete the course

GOODTIME PIA (Allamerican Ingot – Wingsofury) is an unraced mare for trainer Courtney Slater and was last of the four runners to complete the course. KIA ORA BEAUTY backed up at Charlton on Thursday afternoon and finished a distant second in fast time.

Trial 8: - MODERN BLISS prepared for his effort in the Gunbower Cup on Sunday with a trial victory in handy time. He is meeting a strong field first up on Sunday but he has drawn to gain a prominent position in the early stages. GOODTIME HEAVEN is a top mare that has won fifteen of her thirty starts but hasn’t raced since being unplaced in the Richmond Lass at Melton in May. That was her only run since October 2020 so she has been very lightly raced in recent times. BLISSFULL STRIDE finished third in a quality trial to end the program with FLYING JO being the last horse across the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.2.1            Last Half: - 58.1                Margins: - 5m, 15m

MARYBOROUGH 28/11/21

Trial 1: - MORRISONS DREAM was last of the five runners in the early stages but he remained on the inside all of the way and gained the perfect run through via the sprint lane. He did gain a lovely trip but he appeared to be jogging across the line to win by an increasing margin of three metres. He is meeting a handy field at Ararat on Tuesday night including the Group 1 winning pacer Kimble but he should be finishing off okay. SKY FULL OF STARS of a former New Zealand pacer, which has recently joined trainer Kate Hargreaves. He settled in fourth position, moved into the one out and one back trail at the 700m and came out three horses wide shortly afterwards. He loomed up to win but found MORRISONS DREAM to be too quick in the run to the line. MORRISONS DREAM has a National Rating, which is 17 points greater to SKY FULL OF STARS however. SKY FULL OF STARS will be strongly fancied at his local debut at Yarra Valley on Monday. PARTYWITHMACH began quickly and was able to shoot to the lead shortly after the start. Mile Rate: - 2.5.0            Last Half: - 59.0                Margins: - 1m, 1m

Trial 3: - THE KEW LEGEND began well and trailed the leader. He waited for the sprint lane and accelerated fast to get the prize. Considering the final half was run in 57.4 seconds, it was a tidy display. He is drawn on the pole position at Geelong this evening but he is meeting a strong field. IM PRINCESS BELLA began very quickly and ran to the lead shortly after the start. She raced fiercely and set up a genuine tempo, which was probably detrimental to her in the run to the finish. She will need to settle better mid-race at Melton tomorrow night, where she meets a top field of fillies in the Youthful Stakes. AN FELLA MOR was sixth on the inside, moved into the one out and one back trail at the quarter pole and came out wide into the straight. She bounced to the front, ran along at a genuine tempo and gave nothing else a chance. BEAU GARCON trailed the leader and tried hard to finish in second.
