Our trial expert Craig Rail has perused the tapes and drawn up a detailed summary from what he's found this week.

At the bottom of the write-up you will find Rail's Blackbook ins and outs.

Kilmore 15/05/19

Trial 1: - MAJOR IN ARMS dashed across from barrier three to find the lead and always looked to be in control. The trotter ALDEBARAN CRESCENT trailed the leader throughout and was never asked for an effort in the straight. The juvenile pacer STORMTIDE (Mach Three – Aquae Sulis 2.3.0, $5,319)) settled three back on the markers and lost ground but he was an unraced 2yo taking on multiple winners.

Mile Rate: - 2.4.4             Final Half: - 59.2               Margins: - 8m, 20m

Trial 2: - The New South Wales and Tasmanian Derby winner MAX DELIGHT returned in style with an effortless victory. He trailed the leader DIVINE DIVA and quickly pounced on the home turn. He went to the line under a throttle hold to defeat MALCOLMS RHYTHM, which finished nicely from three back on the markers and DIVINA DIVA ended up being last of the three runners.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.9           Final Half: - 57.5               Margins: - 3m, 10m

BLACKBOOKER: - Max Delight

Trial 3: - The former New Zealander MASS DESTRUCTION gained a 40m advantage over FATHER CHRISTMAS and BIG JACK HAMMER under the standing start conditions but considering he is a T2 assessed trotter taking on proven “Group” performers, he appeared to be very good going to the line. He led throughout to win well and is worth following. FATHER CHRISTMAS finished second after trailing the leader and BIG JACK HAMMER was third after settling three back on the markers. Neither horse was extended at any stage but it is fair to say the winner had a bit left in the tank as well. YOUNEEDABITOFMUSCLE galloped away from the standing start and finished a distant last.

Mile Rate: - 2.7.9             Final Half: - 60.7               Margins: - 5m, 1m

BLACKBOOKER: - Mass Destruction

Shepparton 16/05/19

Trial 1: - It was an extremely slowly run trial with FLUORO running to the lead from JUSTCALLMEAZA (Bitobliss – Meandmyshadow 2.2.7, $6,125)), LETS MAKE TRACKS (Shadow Play – Classic Tycoon 1.57.6, $34,520)) and the pole marker MISS ARTEMIS being last of the four with the field racing in single file. LETS MAKE TRACKS broke stride momentarily and checked MISS ARTEMIS with both horses losing 10-15m at the 700m mark. JUSTCALLMEAZA was able to show enough speed to get passed FLUORO on the line to win the trial. MISS ARTEMIS was doing her best work late in third with LETS MAKE TRACKS finishing at the tail.

Mile Rate: - 2.10.0           Final Half: - 59.0               Margins: - Head, 3m

Trial 2: - The three 2yo trotters beat home the older horses in trial two. DIZZYSJET (Quaker Jet – Dizzyinterest 2.0.5, $33,367) settled four back on the markers and came to the outside at the 500m. She was taken out a little wider on the track when the early leader WANDA lugged away from the inside but she had built up enough momentum to win the trial nicely. EVERYSECONDCOUNTS (Trixton – I Dreamt It 2.3.8, $32,502) trailed the leader and used the sprint lane to finish second with BUILDER BOB (Angus Hall – Shes An Image 1.57.4, $233,824) following her throughout and running third. WANDA (Andover Hall – Flash Teena 2.2.1, $45,964) was still a winning chance in the trial until she broke stride with 100m remaining. ITS GAZADANGERWOOD (Bad Boy Truscott – Justcallmespecial 2.3.6, $18,075) settled five back on the markers and finished fifth with NICKYS SON (Imperial Count – Nicky Eileen 2.0.0, $125,549) following him throughout. DURANTEE finished sixth after galloping away and losing a lot of ground early before chasing hard to catch the field at the 1400m. He did well to finish in front of NICKYS SON.

AMERICAN SWEETHART (American Ideal – Crystal Reign 2.3.3, $33,714) finished third after setting up a slow tempo during the middle stages. WALKAMILEINMYSHOES raced without cover for the majority of the journey, dropping in behind the leader when OK SUNI, which was in that position dropped off at the 500m. He finished fourth in front of IM JOLLYGOOD, which enjoyed the perfect trip and OK SUNI ended up in sixth. VINIANA (All Speed Hanover – Fijian Smile) galloped in the score up and was always tailed out.

Mile Rate: - 2.3.3             Final Half: - 60.2               Margins: - 4m, 5m

Trial 4: - ASTA LEUGO is a former New South Wales pacer, which has joined trainer Craig Turnbull. He settled second last, made a move from the 600m and hit the lead on the home turn. HERE HE COMES followed ASTA LEUGO all of the way and made a late lunge but just failed. CALAQUENDI raced three back on the markers and moved up without cover from the 500m. He finished third in front of GLEN EYRE (4 back markers), the early leader THE FORTUNATE SON, and CHICKA CHICKA (behind leader) finished last of the six runners.

Mile Rate: - 2.1.8             Final Half: - 59.4               Margins: - ½ Head, 20m

Trial 5: - NOMORELYING (Life Sign – Total Truth 2.0.2, $10,525) gained the perfect one out and one back trail behind ROCKON LOCKSLEY throughout and sprinted quickly in the latter stages to win the trial comfortably and with something in reserve. THERMO (1-2) got passed the early leader COOLARAMA to finish in fourth position. LILNOVA finished sixth after being three back on the markers throughout and RANCE (It’s A Long Story – She’s A Head Turner 2.7.0, $23,857) finished at the rear of the field after angling in behind the leader on the first turn.

He trailed the leader and obtained a good run throughout in the trial but he won with plenty in reserve. REIGN MAKER tried to lead throughout and held down second from MELPARK BUTCH, which didn’t have a great deal of luck. He was without cover early, restrained to last then was the first to make a move at the 700m. CUZIN LYNDAL (Courage Under Fire – Aunty Daph) settled three back on the inside and finished last of the four.

MASTER SPARK (Majestic Son – Arcupango (2.4.9, $16,140)) has shown some ability at the trials but is still learning. He was slow to begin then made several errors mid-race. BIRTHDAY SUIT followed MOONLIGHT DREAM throughout and finished strongly (not as well as the winner) to snare second. BACARDI CHARDY began well and progressed forward to take the lead away from DREAM OVER shortly after the start. She finished third in front of BACARDI CARTA, which was finding the line quite nicely in the run to the finish.

Mile Rate: - 2.9.6             Final Half: - 59.07             Margins: - Neck, Head

Trial 4: - The millionaire pacer SOHO TRIBECA hasn’t started since the Sunshine Sprint during last season’s Winter Carnival and looked sharp in his comeback trial. He stepped away nicely from the standing start and led throughout to win with plenty in reserve. RACKEMUP TIGERPIE was very good at his last preparation and he also impressed, running SOHO TRIBECA down to half a neck on the line.

Mile Rate: - 2.5.2             Final Half: - 57.48             Margins: - ½ Neck

Trial 5: - DREAM MASTAR scrambled at the start but got back trotting quickly and trailed the leader YOUNEEDABITOFMUSCLE. He took an inside run at the 400m and sprinted home too well. YOUNEEDABITOFMUSCLE began very quickly but he didn’t want to get anywhere near the markers early. He eventually crossed to the lead but he hung out badly for the majority of the trip with DREAM MASTAR taking the inside run. HES THEMIGHTYSPIN settled four back on the markers and worked passed COMIN THRU (Muscles Yankee – Invasion’s Pride 2.5.6, $36,765) to finish a distant third and QUEEN OF EURASIA (Bacardi Lindy – Maori Missile 2.4.6, $1,203) was fifth throughout. She set up a genuine tempo and won impressively from VAN MARA, which trailed her throughout and fleetingly looked to be a chance with 100m remaining. SMART LITTLE SHARD finished third from MANGANELLO, which trialled well again, seemingly having plenty in reserve at the finish. CASTLE RETREAT dropped off the gate at the start and was last throughout. The finishing order was the way in which the horses were positioned in single file throughout.

Mile Rate: - 1.58.7           Final Half: - 56.23             Margins: - 2.5m, 5m

Trial 7: - DREAMEE began quickly and stayed out wide on the track early before getting across to lead at the 1300m. He ran along at an even tempo and held off the challenge of AVIMORE (Angus Hall – Speedy Naomi 2.3.9, $77,319). AVIMORE was very good. He led early, took cover and finished off well via the sprint lane. Considering DREAMEE has already won a race this season, the future is bright for AVIMORE.
