The spotlight will shine even brighter on Victorian trots’ night of celebration when the 2017-18 Gordon Rothacker Medal showcases those who have served and succeeded.

The annual evening at Southbank’s Palladium at Crown on Sunday, October 21, will for the first time also feature the Hall Of Fame Awards, when six new members and a legend will be inducted.

Those celebrations will come in addition to awarding the standout country clubs, horses, breeders and participants from the 2017-18 season, when national records were smashed by Victoria’s leading performers.

HRV CEO David Martin said the night would be a terrific showcase of the breadth and depth of Victorian trots talent.

“I look forward to reliving the magical moments and outstanding performers from last season, but also honouring those who have given so much to the sport over so long,” Mr Martin said.

“It’s a unique and important occasion that gives the industry and its many tireless members, participants and volunteers a chance to take stock and reflect on their incredible achievements and contributions.”

The celebrations will start with pre-dinner drinks at 6pm before the presentations, overseen by hosts Michael Guerin and Jason Bonnington, begin at 6.30pm.

The ever-popular Horse of the Year awards will be certain to again provide much discussion before we build up to the headline service honours, the Pearl Kelly Award and the Gordon Rothacker Medal.

Having been awarded since 2002, this year will induct the 18th Gordon Rothacker Medallist, joining last year’s entrant Jim O’Sullivan amid an elite group of contributors heralded for long-term devotion to harness racing.

The party then continues in the hands of DJ Kate Lister, who will again fill the dance floor with the night’s revellers.

RSVP by Friday October 5 via rsvp@hrv.org.au or phone 03 8378 0212 to be a part of the celebration.
