Vale Danny Hoban

Well respected former trainer and freelance reinsman Danny Hoban passed on Tuesday, January 9, aged 87.

Danny was a member of a harness racing dynasty that included brother Frank and was well known throughout the Preston district racing scene for their black and white silks, colours that reflect their lineage to uncle and Collingwood Football Club great Jock McHale.

Danny enjoyed great success and was a regular at the Melbourne Showgrounds and Moonee Valley, being associated with horses such as Heritage, Rapadillo and Wynvale to name just a few.

I’m sure he drove on occasions for leading trainer Jack McKay and can recall him driving a smart youngster by the name of Sperry. He was also associated with legendary trainer/driver G.D. (Dave) Wilson.

Danny is survived by his wife Dorothy (Dot), daughter Lisa and son Daniel.

His funeral was held in Geelong, where he has resided for a number of years, on Thursday January 25.

Harness Racing Victoria expresses condolences, thoughts and best wishes to the Hoban family and their friends.
