The end of an era for the Mildura Harness Racing Club occurred last Saturday when long-serving club committeeman Geoff Hepworth passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 69.
Geoff was the son of former Mildura Secretary/Manager Ray Hepworth and his wife Grace (both deceased), who served the club with distinction for over 50 years.
Geoff was a tireless worker for the club, spending many years on the committee, and was probably best known in his role as track attendant at both race meetings and trial nights.
Former Secretary/Manager of the club Mark Kemp was full of praise for Geoff, saying he will be sadly missed by the Mildura harness racing community.
During his long service with the club, he was awarded both the “Service to Club” recognition and life membership.
Geoff is survived by his wife Anne and three daughters, Erin, Brooke and Lauren.
Harness Racing Victoria Chairman Bernard Saundry and the Board members send their sincere condolences to the Hepworth family on behalf of the entire industry.
A funeral service is to be held on Wednesday, May 27 from 1.30pm at 596 Deakin Av, Mildura (Chapel of North West Funerals).
