The voice of the trots is now a Caduceus Club of Victoria Living Legend.

Dan Mielicki was announced as the 29th recipient of the prestigious award during the Victorian Harness Racing Club’s Night of Nights function at The Palladium.

Mielicki, who cut his teeth in broadcasting by calling the thoroughbreds, accepted an offer from Harness Racing Victoria to be the code's number one man in 1996 and has never looked back.

An emotional Mielicki spoke on stage with Bill Hutchison, who presented the 51-year-old with his award.

"I haven't levelled out. Maybe age could stop you in the end, but I still keep putting the same amount of work (in) that I will always put in," Mielicki told a crowd of over 500.

"I talk about the preparation and the study that I do. My family know that and I think most of my friends know that. I get there on race day and people think he just gets up there and he does it, but I do do a lot of work behind the scenes.

"I love the other codes, too. I'm very much a three-code man, but I can't get away from where the passion lies and that's from the people within the harness racing industry.

"There is no doubt, there is absolutely no doubt, the most passionate of the three codes of the people involved and the participants, it's harness racing. Ïf you have to give gold, silver and bronze you get all three."

The Caduceus Club inaugurated the Living Legend award in 1995 to honour those who've gone above and beyond – from anywhere in Australasia - and made significant contributions to the industry.
