The Australian Pacing Gold Yearling Sale, to be held at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, offers buyers the chance to own some of Australasia's best-bred yearlings available with 33 yearlings either out of or siblings to Group/Listed winning mares.

The youngsters represent the cream of the crop from many of the leading breeders in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania.

The 121 lot catalogue, 105 of which are pacers, will showcase the progeny of champion stallions including Bettor’s Delight, Captaintreacherous, Art Major, Sweet Lou, American Ideal, Always B Miki, Rock N Roll Heaven, A Rocknroll Dance and Love You.

A feature of the sale will be the first crop of the well credentialled stallions Tall Dark Stranger, Bettor’s Wish, Capt Midnight, Ride High and Lochinvar Art and the trotters Bold  Eagle, Elite Stride, Helpisontheway and Muscle M Up.

Young emerging sires such as the American imports Stay Hungry, Captain Crunch, Downbytheseaside, Lather Up and Pastor Stephen and the colonial breds Vincent, Poster Boy, The Storm Inside and Soho Tribeca will add interest to the sale.

Among the most sought after lots will be the three-quarter brother to the Inter Dominion champion and Hunter Cup pre-post favourite Leap To Fame (Lot 161) and a brother to former trotting queen Pink Galahs (Lot 215).

There’s yearlings out of the Group winners Shake It Mama, Mendelico, Sparkling Tachyon, Vouvray Beach, Lynniemach, Juliette Bromac, Tisu Holly, Miss Warbucks and Princess Mila, half-brothers to horses the calibre of The Storm Inside, the APG winner Park Life, Follow The Stars, Heaven Rocks, Im Smouldering, Sahara Breeze, Petillante and Mirragon and half-sisters to Maajida, Tay Tay, Brigadier Bronski, Paradise Valley, Imprincessgemma, Shineonucrazydiamond (1:50), Deltasun and Moreton Bay.

Close relatives of Just Believe, Swayzee, Lochinvar Art, Flaming Flutter, Tell Me Tales, Treachery, Shadow Sax, My Hard Copy, Safari, Our Sixpence, Keayang Cullen, Tupelo Rose, Pembrook Benny, Maori Time and Speeding Spur are listed in the catalogue.

All pacing yearlings are eligible for the APG Race Series for two-year-olds with separate $150,000 Finals to be held at Melton in 2025. Trotters will be eligible to compete in single sex $50,000 finals for two-year-olds in 2025.

They are also eligible for the Breeders Crown, Bathurst Gold Crown, Vicbred, NSW Breeders Challenge, Tasbred, Southern Cross, NZ Sires Stakes and Need For Speed.

As an added incentive for buyers, Harness Racing Victoria has provided credit vouchers worth $4,000 each to 10 lucky registered bidders on sale day.

The yearling parade with awards to the best presented youngsters will be held on Saturday from 12 noon. The sale kicks off on Sunday at 12 noon.


Victorian breeders Mark and Sue-Ellen Thompson (Missed The Truth) and Ian Stanley (Rackemup Tigerpie) bred important winners on interstate tracks last weekend. Missed The Truth took out the $60,000 Tamworth City Cup, while Rackemup Tigerpie added the $40,000 Hobart Pacing Cup to his list of successes


Prominent veterinarian Greg Hargreaves bred the winner of the opening race at the Wedderburn Cup meeting at Maryborough in the trotter Boutika


The death of the American import American Ideal was an immense blow to the Australasian breeding industry. He had many top pacers including Copy That, Bling It On, Soho Tribeca, Triple Eight and My Hard Copy and his daughters left Act Now, Braeview Kelly and Kualoa
