Conroy credits family after Mielicki delivers 100th training win

anne maree conroyBlissfully unaware of her milestone, popular identity Anne-Maree Conroy credits the power of social media for bringing the career highlight to her attention.

Thanks to Mielicki’s success in Maryborough last Sunday, Conroy notched her 100th win as a trainer.

Simply enjoying the thrill of another victory, Conroy became curious after she began to receive messages about her achievement.

“I didn’t know it was coming up,” Conroy said. “Then I started getting messages congratulating me, which was wonderful.

“Some also sent me the Facebook post Harness Racing Victoria made, which I didn’t see because I’m not on Facebook.

“While I’m getting the credit, it has long been a family operation, so it is shared among us.”

According to official records, Conroy’s maiden win was with Burn The Track, but the horsewoman cites Bill Pepperell as “the one that counts”.

“When getting a licence back in the late 1980s, you had to have a horse in your name, so Dad said put Burn The Track in your name,” Conroy recalled. “He won soon after, but he was more Dad’s horse.

“Bill Pepperell is the one that counts to me when it comes to fully training him.

“Even now, my name is down as the trainer, but my brother Glenn trains with me and our brother Peter is in charge of the feeds, so it’s still a family effort.”

As for Mielicki’s triumph, Glenn partnered the trotter to score by two-and-a-half metres from Giggle Water.

Hold That Magic was two metres away third in 2:01.9 over 2190 metres.
