Cohen Tindale’s on the cusp of a Major victory on Saturday night – all he needs is for him and his little Buddy to step away and safely cross the finish line and Pony Trots Victoria’s most prestigious prize will be in his keeping.
Cohen and Buddy Major have blazed through the first Hygain Summer of Glory Metropolitan Series, which has put the drivers and ponies up in lights on some of the state’s biggest nights of the year.
It all comes to a head with this Saturday’s fifth and final round of the championship, when eight hopefuls will trot their way around Melton for the final points in the series.
The night will be celebrated on TrotsVision, which will stream the prelude at 6.35pm and then the fifth round at 7.05pm. And stay tuned to the coverage, with a special senior drivers’ pony trots showdown to follow the fourth race on the program – The Big Screen Company 3YO Pace at 8.02pm – when young pony trots drivers will give their harness racing heroes strict instructions to chase success.
It will be a night of fun but also serious competition, with a lot on the line.
Tindale and Buddy Major were brilliant at Melton last Saturday night in dominating both the prelude and the fourth round of the series, picking up the maximum 16 points for their victory in the latter.
That saw the duo shoot to 61 points on the standings, 14 points clear of Darcie Fisher and Light The Fuse in second place. There’s a thrilling battle for third between Madison Pengelly and her pony Elliot, who are on 33 points, and Charlie Walters and The Brawler, who are on 32 points.
All four of those leading lights will compete on Saturday night amid an eight-pony field, with the winner to pocket 16 points, second place 13 points, third place 11 cascading down to six points for the last pony home in eighth place.
Here are the fields for Saturday night:
