Strong interest for slots in world’s richest harness race

The window to submit an expression of interest for a slot in the world’s richest harness race has closed, with organisers to now work through the nominations before announcing the successful applicants early next month.

The race is over-subscribed, meaning a Harness Racing Australia independent panel must review the list of interested parties before confirming the final 10 slot holders on September 2.

As naming rights sponsor, Tabcorp already has a slot in the $2.1 million The Eureka, which will be run for the first time at Menangle in September 2023.

Once confirmed, slot holders must pay $300,000 to lock away their place for the first three years of the race.

“We are thrilled with the overwhelming interest in the race, which has been underlined by the number of submissions for slots,” HRA CEO Andrew Kelly said.

The Eureka is for three and four-year-old Australian-bred pacers.
