The postponed 2025 Birchip Mallee Bull Pacing Cup will be run as part of Charlton’s feature meeting this Sunday afternoon.
After consultation with both clubs, Harness Racing Victoria has repositioned the $10,000 event after persistent lightning resulted in stewards abandoning the Birchip meeting with three races – including the pacing cup – remaining on the card.
Nominations for the Mallee Bull Birchip Pacing Cup were reopened on Tuesday morning, with preference given to the horses already drawn into last Sunday’s field.
The race will bolster an already jam-packed meeting at Charlton, which includes that club’s pacing and trotting cups.
Shortly before last Sunday’s meeting was abandoned, Brent Lilley and Tristan Larsen teamed up to win another country feature with New Zealand native Johns Boy in the TMCEnviro Birchip Mallee Bull Trotters Cup.
The seven-year-old gelding overcame a 10m handicap to keep his unbeaten Australian record intact, staving off the challenge from Watch And Act to score a narrow triumph in the $10,000 standing start trot.
Johns Boy had previously won the Echuca Trotters Cup and Central Victorian Trotting Championship at Wedderburn through January.
His career record now stands at seven wins from 63 career starts.
Fields for this Sunday’s Charlton meeting will be available on Wednesday.
