Victorian-based horses have dominated the 2021 Australian Harness Racing Awards with success across almost every pacing and trotting category.
Amazing Dream, trained in Avalon by Nathan Purdon, claimed the Aged Mare Pacer of the Year crown, while Emma Stewart’s star trio Ladies In Red, Act Now and Encipher won respective age/sex titles.
Also receiving pacing division honours was Andy Gath’s gun youngster Catch A Wave, who was 2YO Colt/Gelding Pacer of the Year, while New South Wales champ King Of Swing scooped the Australian Harness Horse of the Year, Australian Pacer of the Year and Aged Horse/Gelding Pacer of the Year awards.
Champion juvenile Plymouth Chubb’s outstanding 14-win season for trainer Peter Manning was rewarded with both the 2YO Trotting Colt/Gelding of the Year and Australian Trotter of the Year honours, while New Zealander Majestic Man, who made two trips to our shores in 2021, was named Aged Trotting Horse/Gelding of the Year.
Pink Galahs, trained by Matthew Craven, picked up the 2021 Aged Trotting Mare of the Year award, Stewart’s Just A Bit Touchy was acknowledged as the standout two-year-old trotting filly and Brent Lilley pair Aldebaran Zeus and Queen Elida took out respective three-year-old squaregaiting crowns.
