Vale Betty Dove

The Kilmore harness community is mourning the passing of Betty Dove, who died at age 93 on Christmas Day.

Betty hails from a harness racing family that left an extraordinary mark on the sport.

The passionate trots fan was the wife of Victorian Harness Racing Club Hall of Fame member Don Dove, and accepted the honour on his behalf when he was inducted in 2016. Don was a highly successful trainer/driver, winning hundreds of races with the likes of Monara, Warragul Cup winner Macaree and Victoria Derby winner Kelly Kid.

Betty and Don were the parents of Stephen, Trevor and Judy, with the former two also well-known horsemen.

Betty reportedly “was so passionate towards trotting” and “hardly ever missed watching a meeting on Sky Channel”.

A private wake will be held to honour her life.

Harness Racing Victoria extends its condolences to Betty Dove’s family and friends.
