Emma Stewart has made no secret about her love for stable star Tough Tilly and believes the daughter of Captaintreacherous can win Saturday night’s Australian Pacing Gold 3YO Fillies Final regardless of whether she leads or not.
The leading trainer holds a major hand in all four APG finals at Tabcorp Park Melton and she joined Jason Bonnington on Trots Life to discuss her chances.
Tough Tilly enters the $350,000 final after back-to-back heat wins and as a short-priced favourite after coming up with a barrier five draw.
“She’s ultra quick off the arm,” Stewart said.
“At first glance I’m pretty happy with the draw. If she leads, I think that would be fantastic and if not, I think she’d still be good enough.
“Her run last week was super and fingers crossed everything goes good for her.”
Interestingly, Stewart painted a picture that suggested there wasn’t much between Tough Tilly and stablemate Joanna, who has drawn off the back row.
“I think Joanna is more of a free-runner and if she had have drawn one and Tough Tilly drew outside of her, I think we’d be in a bit of all sorts. Joanna more relies on the draw because she is definitely a front-runner,” she said.
Stewart has 12 runners across the four finals on Saturday night, three of which are favourite. Playing Up (APG Vic Gold Bullion 2YO Fillies), Beach Villa (APG Vic Gold Bullion 2YO Colts and Geldings) and Tough Tilly (APG 3YO Fillies) are all on top in current TAB markets.
