Heat relief for participants, equine and human, at Mildura

Tonight’s Mildura trots meeting will begin at the later time of 7.03pm and the club is looking after all participants – equine and human – with several iced water bins for the horses and free bottled water, icy poles and soft drinks for human participants and staff.

The weather is tipped to soar into the 40s this afternoon before eventually cooling off this evening.

Club CEO Michelle McGinty-Wilson said the free bottled water was “on ice in various locations around the stabling area for participants” and other measures had been put in place for tonight.

“That’s something we do every week, ensuring they have free water and soft drink, but today I’ve included free Zooper Dooper icy poles and Powerade,” she said.

“I also have the freezers stocked with icy poles and orange ice blocks if required.

“Importantly for the horses we have numerous iced water bins so they can remain cool and have a drink, as well as air conditioning units that have been running throughout the day in the drivers’ rooms, stewards’ rooms and dining areas.”

The nine-race program will be broadcast live on Trots Vision at thetrots.com.au
