For the third time in his career, harness racing writer Paul Courts has won an International Media Award via the International Trotting Association.
Courts secured “Best Magazine Article” for his piece on Duncan McPherson and harness racing’s Teal Pants promotion, which has grown into an annual event promoted by trots authorities and participants throughout Australasia.
“I am thrilled to receive such an award and even more excited the article’s subject, the Teal Pants Campaign, has received some international recognition as the message behind the campaign is so important,” Courts said.
“It’s the reinswomen throughout Australasia who have made the campaign so successful. They are the ones who deserve the recognition.”
Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) Chairman Dale Monteith congratulated Courts for his award.
“HRV congratulates Paul for securing this international trotting media award, the third time he’s been honoured in this space,” Mr Monteith said.
“His article, ‘Teal Pants, helping turn tragedy into triumph’ was a powerful depiction of the personal connection and drive by Duncan McPherson to develop what has become an extremely successful annual harness racing campaign, raising funds and awareness for the fight against ovarian cancer.”
Courts previously won International Media Awards in 2017 for his article relating to Love Ina Chevy and 2011 for the coverage of the Christchurch earthquake and its impact on trots participants.
