ID18 video: Peter Lane talks Kheiron’s ID18

Bigger, stronger and just as fast was Peter Lane’s assessment of Kheiron during an extensive chat ahead of tomorrow night’s first round of TAB Inter Dominion trotting heats.

Unraced since his Breeders Crown win in August, Lane said Kheiron had two trials ahead of tomorrow night’s hit-out and while he would probably need the run he was optimistic about his trotters standing.

“He doesn’t take a lot of work, he doesn’t need a lot of work to be right,” Lane said. “He put on 52 kilos in 26 days, it was incredible, and he’s grown an inch. And that’s a substantial amount in a short period of time.

“He’s a much different product to what he was as a two-year-old and three-year-old.”

Lane said, come what may once the gates open tomorrow night, “we’ve won the event already, just to be in it. It’s just a joy going there and participating.”

It was a day to remember for Aaron Dunn. Not only did he go back-to-back from last year to this year in the Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup, he also trained the quinella, with Forty Love taking the honours and last year’s winner Dee Roe finishing second, driven by Jackie Barker.

While the ink is far from dry on the $500,000 Summer Of Glory bonus cheque, superstar mare Keayang Zahara is on track to provide her connections with a windfall after her effortless win in the Group 1 $100,000 Aldebaran Park Maori Mile.
