The Garrards Horse and Hound Young Guns series returns to see out 2024 on New Year’s Eve at Melton Entertainment Park, with the state’s top 10 under-25 drivers set to battle it out.
The fields for the eight ratings-exempt races have been drawn, with a sliding points scale based on finishing positions used to declare an overall winner.
Competitive racing can be expected throughout the night with most races appearing to be evenly contested on form.
The proposed repechage event for the drivers ranked 10-20 unfortunately didn’t receive the necessary nominations, however thanks to the support of Hygain, those drivers will receive a prize pack.
With some fields not at capacity, Luke Dunne, James Herbertson, Ryan Sanderson, Jordan Leedham and Ewa Justice will receive five points for not receiving an entry under the Harness Racing Australia rules.
New Year’s Eve is a night which regularly attracts a large crowd to Melton for the races, activities and midnight fireworks display, with around 8000 to 10,000 patrons on track.
Those at home will be able to watch the action on Sky Racing, Sky Racing Active and TrotsVision.
