Ryan Phelan’s tips and 10-unit strategy for tonight’s 7-race card at Shepparton.
R1 – 6:03pm – Cottrells Electrical Pace – 2190m
2 – Bus Stop
10 – Followtheace
8 – Shaq
4 – Michen Roy
Bus Stop is a horse who likes to race on the pace, and it’s been quite some time since circumstances have presented for him to potentially lead. I am wary he doesn’t win out of turn and has a poor strike rate this track but he’s worth a small play based on map.
BACK: 2 Bus Stop – .5 Unit (win) 1.5 Units (Place)
R2 – 6:28pm – JDC Contractors Pace – 1690m
5 – Regal Rock
9 – Hesaa Lister
2 – Noble Julia
6 – The Majors Girl
R3 – 7:00pm – Hunter Rural Pace – 1690m
9 – Mynameisruby
8 – Joeys Hangover
10 – Beau Bronski
7 – Beryls Grin
Mynameisruby drops back to a rating 39 here after performing ok against better quality opposition. James Herbertson gets back on board and he’s proven he gets on well with her in the past.
BACK: 9 Mynameisruby – 1.5 Units (win)
R4 – 7:34pm – Saddleworld Shepparton Pace – 1690m
6 – Skyfall Benchmark
5 – Aliza Hill
3 – Twilight Beach
9 – Bet Sheza Lady
Skyfall Benchmark is a newcomer to Victoria and has had five trials since the start of the year, the most recent of those was impressive in solid time. Not confident about how the map works for him here with plenty of speed drawn inside, but if he can get a decent enough position handy will give a good sight.
BACK: 6 Skyfall Benchmark – 2 Units (win)
R5 – 8:08pm – Avenel Equine Clinic Trot – 1690m
10 – Alfie Always
1 – Montana Muscle
7 – Silver Spoon
3 – Night Sky
R6 – 8:42pm – Alabar Bloodstock 3yo 0-1 LTW Trot – 2190m
4 – Peggy Vale
7 – Flyin Time
6 – Amalia Pearl
8 – Majestic Monarch
Peggy Vale is having her second career run after a terrific debut when forced to sit parked to be narrowly beaten. Gets a draw to roll forward into a handy position and is certain to come on from that first-up run in fitness.
BACK: 4 Peggy Vale – 1.5 Units (win)
R7 – 9:16pm – Jam Packed Donuts Trotters Handicap – 2190m
3 – Aristotle
6 – Watch And Act
4 – Antonov
1 – Dances
Aristotle loves the standing start conditions and draws nicely here to potentially find the front. I’m referencing his win five runs ago where he led all the way beating some of these as a good test case for this set up. The in-form Ryan Sanderson is a big plus also.
BACK: 3 Aristotle – 3 Units (win)

** A betting unit is typically a percentage of the total bankroll or the amount of money you are willing to risk on a particular bet – for example 1 unit is 10% of your bankroll, therefore with a $100 bankroll 1 unit equals $10.
