Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.
Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.
Race 1 – 1720m Sharps Bakery Pace
1/12 Golden Tribe – Lochie Cook/Tom Rundle
Golden Tribe was super impressive first-up, recovering from an early mix-up in gait to score emphatically. He was favourite in similar conditions against a hotter field two runs ago, and while he draws the back row tonight, fitness is improving, and the right tempo should see him too strong late.
Confidence: Medium Rated Win Price: $2.50
Race 2 – 1720m Prydes Easifeed Pace
2/12 Curyo Gentleman – Michael Bellman/Rod Carberry
Curyo Gentleman has been running sharp times despite a couple of defeats that may have left punters disappointed. Three runs back from a similar draw he was arguably the run of the night. He drops sharply in class here and gets his chance to atone.
Confidence: Medium Rated Win Price: $1.70
Race 3 – 2240m Renown Silverware Mares Pace
3/9 Soap And Bubbles – Mark Pitt/Lisa Pitt
Soap And Bubbles was excellent last start when runner-up, running sizzling sectionals over the short trip. The extra distance tonight is right up her alley, and she gets the perfect chance to show her best.
Confidence: High Rated Win Price: $1.70
Race 4 – 2240m Aldebaran Park Tatlow Stakes (2yo Trotters)
4/7 The Preacher – Chris Alford/Jayne Davies
The Preacher impressed on debut at Cranbourne when winning parked, backing up strong trial form. He wasn’t quick out of the gate, so the draw shouldn’t worry him, and with the step up in distance, he looks to have the style to go on with it.
Confidence: Medium Rated Place Price: $1.50
Race 5 – 2240m APG Trot
5/8 Ringer Wells – Kate Gath/Andy Gath
Ringer Wells was about to win last week before breaking stride when a run appeared. He was a solid winner prior, and this company doesn’t look strong. With an ounce of luck, he can bounce back.
Confidence: Medium Rated Place Price: $1.60
Race 6 – 2240m Welcome Baby Oliver Pace
6/1 Sergeant Lou – Michael Bellman/Kari Males
Sergeant Lou returned after a long layoff with a sound first-up effort in strong company. He has the gate speed to be put into the race, but uncertainty on the map tempers confidence. Still, natural improvement gives him a chance to feature.
Confidence: Low Rated Place Price: $1.50
Race 7 – 1720m Mimosa Homes Trot
7/8 Valtino – James Herbertson/Blake Fitzpatrick
Valtino hasn’t saluted since his Breeders Crown 3yo victory, often bringing himself undone. His past two have been much cleaner, including a strong closing run last week. If he trots fluently here, the smaller field should allow him to swoop.
Confidence: Medium Rated Place Price: $1.70
Race 8 – 2240m Lifestyle Communities Woodlea FFA
8/5 Hesfromheaven – James Herbertson/Jess Tubbs
Hesfromheaven is airborne at the moment, running sharp sectionals even in defeat. He maps to roll forward over the longer trip, and while quality rivals will be chasing, the tempo sets up for him to give plenty of cheek.
Confidence: Medium Rated Win Price: $2.20
Race 9 – 2240m Logical Staffing Solutions Pace Final
9/5 New Shuffle – James Herbertson/Phillip Chircop
New Shuffle is a progressive 3yo who resumed with an easy Cranbourne win. He’s fitter, has genuine early speed, and should look to roll forward to the lead again. In that role he’ll be hard to catch.
Confidence: High Rated Win Price: $1.20
