Elite racing and fashion icons ready to light up Shepparton Cup Night

Abbey Turnbull is set to play a starring role in the 2026 Summer of Glory carnival, both on and off the track, as the spotlight turns to Shepparton Gold Cup night on Saturday January 17.

One of Victoria’s young talents on the rise, Turnbull will be in action during the six-week series while also helping drive one of its key events in her dual role at Shepparton Harness Racing Club.

“This year I’ve stepped into the role of Social Media Manager at Shepparton Harness Racing Club, alongside being named the Neatline Shepparton Gold Cup ambassador,” Turnbull said.

“It’s truly an honour and a privilege. I’m learning so much, working with an incredible team, and genuinely enjoying every part of the journey.”

On the track, Turnbull is hoping to take the reins on Intrusion in the SEN GV Regional Pacing Cup Final, as well as Rocky Rocks in the Graham Head Memorial 3YO Pace, should both runners gain a start at Shepparton.

“Both are lovely horses with wonderful owners and are trained by my father, Craig. I’m incredibly grateful for the trust placed in me to drive them and to be part of their racing journeys.”

Off the track, Turnbull is helping spearhead a major new attraction on Shepparton Gold Cup night, with Fashions on the Field debuting as part of the Summer of Glory experience.

“Fashions on the Field is something completely new for Shepparton, and it’s shaping up to be very exciting. It’s all about ‘Dress to Impress Under Lights’,” she said.

A standout feature of the event is the $5,000 Grand Prize for Best Dressed Lady, proudly sponsored by Munro & Associates Conveyancing, which is expected to attract strong interest from fashion lovers across the region. In addition, awards will also be presented for Best Dressed Gent and Best Dressed Junior, ensuring everyone can join the fun.

The event is supported by local partners Traffik, Shop 221 Shepparton, and Squires Loft Sunbury, highlighting the community spirit surrounding the Gold Cup.

“This year’s theme embraces a touch of glitter and gold, with black and silver, our sponsor colours providing a beautiful base. That said, there are no strict rules. Whatever your heart desires and whatever makes you feel your best on the night is absolutely perfect,” Turnbull said.

“Everyone is welcome, with free entry and something for all ages. Whether you choose general admission or a premium Cup experience, you’ll enjoy thrilling racing alongside the warm community atmosphere that Shepparton Harness Racing Club is known for,” she added.

“We also have some fantastic events in the lead-up to Cup night, including the Live Barrier Draw, Breakfast with the Stars, and the Calcutta. Be sure to follow our socials to stay up to date with all the details.”

Looking at the racing, Turnbull says the $50,000 Shepparton Gold Cup itself is shaping as a highlight.

“With Swayzee, Leap To Fame and Kingman all confirmed for the Cup, it’s impossible to choose just one,” she said.

Shepparton is the second stop of the six-week Summer of Glory carnival, which features six Super Saturdays, nine Group 1s, free entry, and on-course entertainment for all ages, including kids’ activities and the debut of a VIP Prosecco Bar experience. Whether it’s the racing, the fashion, or the atmosphere under lights, Shepparton Gold Cup night is set to be one of the standout events of the Summer of Glory.
