LET IT RIDE – Multi plays with Ryan Phelan

Every Saturday, Ryan Phelan hunts for the most reliable locks to strengthen your multi bets. By analysing race maps, sectional times, and key trainer/driver combinations, he delivers sharp insights to add confidence – and a touch of excitement – to your harness racing, thoroughbred, or sports multis.

Each selection is rated with low, medium, or high confidence and includes a suggested place or win price. The goal? Minimise risk, maximise consistency, and stack the odds in your favour for a strong overall return.

Race 1 – 2240m Lamaros Hotel Pace

1/11 Timbimboo – Kate Gath/Andy Gath

Timbimboo has been flying for new trainer Andy Gath now aiming for three straight victories. He led up last time and now goes from the front row to the backrow, but the way he is progressing suggests this is well within reach.

Confidence: High   Rated Place Price: $1.80

Race 2 – 1720m Logical Staffing Solutions Pace

2/5 Momentum Shift – Kylie Sugars/Kylie Sugars

Momentum Shift has been in terrific form and when he draws well, he invariably goes close. The map looks favourable to press forward and race in a handy position, and with the right luck he can run a bold race at decent value.

Confidence: Medium       Rated Place Price: $2.50

Race 3 – 2240m Dynamic Print Group Pace

3/11 Blake Bolac – Jordan Leedham/Kelly Stuart-Mitchell

Blake Bolac comes here second-up after failing as a well-supported odds-on favourite when fifth. That effort warrants forgiveness as he raced tough from a wide draw and wasn’t far away. With added fitness he can bounce back.

Confidence: Medium    Rated Place Price: $2.30

Race 4 – 2240m Hygain Edge Trot

4/6 Claudys Hero – Kyle Marshall/Kyle Marshall

In a tricky race Claudys Hero presents as a horse with upside compared to much of this opposition. He got things wrong last time out, but prior to that he was strong in good time. From this draw he can press forward and with even luck and the right manners, is hard to beat.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $2.80

Race 5 – 1720m Australian Pacing Gold Pace

5/9 Isthisjustfantasy – Jason Lee/Marg & Paddy Lee

Isthisjustfantasy won’t know herself in this company after racing against elite mares and drawing poorly in FFA races since resuming. She’s been better on the clock than her numerical form suggests and from the trailing draw can strike hard with one run if the tempo suits.

Confidence: Medium            Rated Win Price: $2.20

Race 6 – 2240m Nevele R Stud Pace

6/7 Jilliby Illuminate – Jason Lee/Marg & Paddy Lee

No luxury with the barrier draw for Jilliby Illuminate, but there is decent speed inside her to float into a good position. Her two runs back have been very good, and the extra distance is in her favour. With the right tempo she can be strong late.

Confidence: Low       Rated Win Price: $2.50

Race 7 – 1720m Mimosa Homes Trot

7/8 Quirky Character – Jack Laugher/Ross Graham

Quirky Character is giving every indication he’s putting it all together. While he has always shown ability, he’s been raw at times, but his last couple have been much more professional. He must overcome the back row draw, but winning form is good form.

Confidence: Low       Rated Place Price: $2.20

Race 8 – 2240m Renown Silverware Trot

8/3 I Am Wilma – Chris Alford/Chris Lang & Sonia Maher

I Am Wilma resumes here against experienced trotters but everything she showed last preparation suggested she’s above average. She’s trialled well into this and over the longer trip the front row may be happy to hand up to her class.

Confidence: High     Rated Win Price: $1.40
