Lee stable dominates with cups double at Geelong

Fresh dominating last night’s Geelong meeting, prominent training partnership Marg and Paddy Lee hope to repeat the dose this evening.

With their stable in incredible form, the Lees completed a clean sweep of the Pacing and Trotting Cups as part of a treble.

Driven by Jason Lee, Imperial Monarch proved too good among the squaregaiters after occupying the ‘death seat’ on his way to a 10-metre win from Most Wanted, with Gotfeelingsyouknow seven metres away third.

The trifecta began from a 10-metre handicap as the son of Imperial Count rated 2:02.5 over 2570 metres.

Jilliby Nitro then matched his stablemate to account for Mach Dan and Smoken Ace in the time-honoured Pacing Cup.

Lochie Cook partnered the son of Bettors Delight to score in 1:56.7 over 2570 metres.

Keayang Sweetheart rounded out the evening with a 1:54.7 mile with Jason in the cart.

As for their pending Cup engagements, the Lees will cross the border for Mount Gambier’s premier meeting of the season.

Along with the power of numbers in the Trotters’ Cup, the Lees also have quality on their side, with The Priestess, Keayang Gypsy and Keayang Gucci the top trio in betting.

The Priestess is the $2.30 TAB Fixed Odds from two on the front line, with Matthew Craven to take the reins behind the daughter of Father Patrick.

Cook will team up with $2.80 second elect Keayang Gypsy from the 10-metre line, with Amy Day booked to partner Keayang Gucci, which shares the 10-metre handicap.

The Lees only have one runner in the Pacing Gold Cup – Keayang Payton – which is a $2.40 favourite from barrier two.

Keayang Payton led throughout to win her heat by 10 metres when first-up from a three-month spell and is expected to strip a lot fitter for the Final.

Also triumphant in his heat, Spook Crocker is considered the main danger at $2.70 from gate nine for local trainer Steven Fennell.

The Lees then have Jilliby Willow in the Country Pacing Cup, with the seven-year-old heading TAB’s Fixed Odds $2.70 despite drawing the outside of the front row – six.

Elsewhere on the card, the mother-and-son combination will be represented by Keayang Passion in the Blue Lake Classic.

Successful upon debut in Ararat three weeks ago, Keayang Passion is a $1.90 TAB Fixed Odds hot shot from barrier four.
