OVERVIEW: It is a very good start to the program with the return of the star local pacer MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (4) taking on the smart Aaron Dunn trained pacers MAXY WANTS TO PLAY (3) and HOT DEAL (6). MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (4) won a heat of the Mildura Cup in April and boasts the record of nine wins from nineteen starts on the track including several victories in mile rates of better than 1.55.0. He won a trial at Mildura last week and should make his presence felt. HOT DEAL (6) also boasts an exceptional strike rate at Mildura (11 of 27) and he came out three horses wide from eighth at the bell when a big winner last outing. He is very versatile and should prove hard to beat again. MAXY WANTS TO PLAY (3) trailed forward behind HOT DEAL (6) in the final lap and tried hard in the straight when a close second behind that pacer last time out. He is better drawn for this assignment and is worth thought again. PRIORITISE (5) was resuming since July when a creditable fourth behind Dhaulagiri at Mildura last outing. He should be fitter from that run and is capable of running into a place.  

BACK: - MY ULTIMATE JIMMY (4) – 2 units (win)

OVERVIEW: ALWAYS ON SAFARI (1) began quickly from the outside of the front line to race without cover early, gained the one out and one back trail behind CALF PEN (3) mid-race and battled on fairly well for third at Mildura last outing. He is better drawn for this assignment and should be prominent throughout. LOUIEVILLE (8) is resuming since a seventh at Mildura in June but he will take beating if he is somewhere near his peak. He was competitive against stronger opposition when he was last in work. SHIRLEY NOT (2) worked home nicely to win two weeks ago then was making ground through the middle approaching the home turn but struck a sulky wheel and galloped at her latest unlucky ninth. She is worth another chance from her good draw. CALF PEN (3) circled around the field to race without cover and proved to be too strong at Mildura on Friday. That was his best run for a long time and he will go close again if he can repeat that performance.

OVERVIEW: KYORETSU (7) recorded successive victories at Mildura and Globe Derby prior to a third behind Neatntidy on Friday, where he began quickly from a wide draw and was able to angle in behind the leader on the first turn. He is awkwardly drawn but appears to be well placed against this opposition. UNITED (8) settled three back on the markers and couldn’t pick up over the latter stages when fifth in the same race won by Neatntidy last week. This is a drop back in class and he was an impressive winner over Lewielewis (won since) on August 07 so he is worth another chance. MY ULTIMATE BILLY (2) performed below expectations at Mildura on Friday, where he raced without cover early before gaining the one out and one back trail. He is better than that effort suggests and is capable of showing up from his good draw. RIO ROCK (1) should be getting fitter after having two starts back from a break and is perfectly drawn to suit her racing pattern so she could improve on her numerical form.

BACK: KYORETSU (7) – 1.5 units (each way)

OVERVIEW: ALMIGHTY RUSH (2) is a fast beginner and is a good chance of leading throughout. He attempted for an all of the way victory when second behind Pretty Mischievous over the 2190m at Mildura on September 11 and he will take catching over the sprint distance. LIKE A LIBRARIAN (10) was held up for a run at a vital stage and worked home okay for fifth at Mildura on Friday. She has been finding the line nicely in her recent appearances and appears to be suited against this line up. PHILS BOY (7) met a stronger field at Charlton when on debut and ran an even race for sixth in a mile of 1.58.2. He should have benefited from the experience and is worth thought under these conditions. CRUEL MISTRESS (9) was placed three times in succession in early August and hasn’t been far away at her recent performances. She is awkwardly drawn but is capable of running into a place.

BACK: ALMIGHTY RUSH (2) – 1.5 units (each way)

OVERVIEW: FLEUR BELLA (2) led throughout in a victory over PUNTO CALIENTE (3) at Mildura on September 11 and is drawn to find the lead again. She didn’t run on over the latter stages at Mildura on Friday but she moves to the front line now and should give a bold showing. PUNTO CALIENTE (3) came from behind FLEUR BELLA (2) and beat that pacer to the line on Friday. He is racing consistently and deserves to break through for a win. THE DEVIL ROLLS ON (9) settled eighth on the outside, came out three horses wide from the 600m and finished off well for third behind Ned’s Beach at Mildura last outing. She is racing consistently and is worth a ticket each way. SNEAKY PHILTRA (4) was making ground out very wide on the track before locking wheels on the home turn when unplaced last week. She was racing really well during June/July and the move to the front line is a definite advantage so she might be able to return to some form. ROJENBYE (6), INDIANAS SON (7) and CAPTAIN PAPRIKA (8) are all capable of showing up in an open race.

OVERVIEW: HOOKLINEANDSINKER (2) ran a much sharper race second up on Friday when he attempted to lead throughout and finished second. He is drawn to lead again and should take catching over the sprint distance. BOHEMIAN BRAIDS (1) was driven aggressively early and battled on well for second behind Ned’s Beach at Mildura two starts ago. He endured a tough run on the outside of the leader last week and he should gain an economical trip from the pole position so he is not without a chance. ACCELERE (7) will need luck from the inside of the second line but he is racing in great form having been placed in all of his five starts since returning to Victoria. He led throughout at Mildura victory two starts ago then followed with a third in a handy mile rate of 1.58.6. BAZZAS LEGACY (8) competed in the Mildura Guineas on Friday and this race is a lot easier. He finished third in reasonable time at Mildura prior and looms as one of the leading chances. COME ON BILLEE (6) had no clear run and seemed to have something in reserve at his latest unlucky fourth. He is worth thought despite the wide draw.
