A simple trip away to Menangle might turn out to be something special if prolific pacer Serg Blanco can rediscover some of his best form.
The Steven Duffy-prepared six-year-old is poised for another appearance up north this weekend and could find himself in the Group 1 Len Smith Mile if opportunity knocks.
“I just wanted to take him up for a couple of trips up there (Menangle),” Duffy said. “If he really found his top form then maybe (we would look at the Len Smith).
“This trip was just to see how he would handle the travel.”
The gelding by Bettors Delight featured at the home of NSW harness racing on August 10 – finishing second to the David Aiken-trained Malcolms Rhythm.
“I took him up there two weeks ago and he didn’t really handle (the travel) that well,” he said. “I will take him up this week and hopefully he will handle it a little bit better.
“He didn’t travel up good and he didn’t lick the bin out. Hopefully he will settle in a little bit better.”
The Len Smith Mile isn’t a complete pipe dream for the 61-year-old horseman.
“If he goes well this week, I might take him back next week and see how he goes against the better ones,” he said.
“If he goes well, I will put him in the free-for-all at Menangle. And if he goes good against the good ones, we will see what happens.”
Serg Blanco has amassed $196,155 in his 60 starts, including 13 wins.
