Abela’s mare set to chase Group 1 grandeur in September

Winner of the first two-year-old race of the year Shes Sky High is set to chase Group 1 splendour in September.

The Tyrone Abela-trained juvenile had a first-up win at Maryborough on March 25 before a lengthy spell in readiness for the Vicbred Super Series.

“She was up for a very long time before that first race and they kept deleting races because they didn’t have enough horses,” Abela said.

“She was ready to race before that and although it was quite late in the two-year-old season, it was actually the first race.

“She was ready for a break and we only just held on to get her to that one.”

The filly out of Peggyhall – an unraced daughter of Angus Hall – has made her way back to the track via the trials at Melton.

“I thought she went pretty good (at the trials), she has improved,” Abela said. “She has had two trials back and in her first one she needed the run. She improved with her second trial – she is going okay.”

Abela is set to give the two-year-old a run before the Vicbred heats for squaregaiters kick-off at Maryborough on September 4.

“I think we will aim her for at least one start before the sires heats, just as a bit of a lead-up,” Abela said.

“She is still very little and has certainly developed in her gait and in her progress.”

The Group 1 Vicbred Super Series finals are set for September 14 at Melton Entertainment Park.
