The Pacing for Pink at the Trots build up has begun, as the sport and its supporters unite to again battle against breast cancer in May.

And this year it will be fought on all fronts, with all drivers invited to wear the pink pants, and sponsors and supporters called on to get behind the cause.

Having previously been held at Cobram and featured a small number of reinswomen working tirelessly for a cause, the 10th anniversary of the McGrath Foundation fundraiser will see it shift to Shepparton on Sunday May 24 and spread the message widely.

Chief organiser, reinswoman and breast cancer survivor Donna Castles said this year, “rather than a select group of drivers wearing the pink pants” to raise awareness for the cause, the campaign would be open to all Victorian drivers.

“The idea about opening it up is to acknowledge that breast cancer can affect everyone, including men, whether personally or to male drivers’ mothers, sisters, partners and other friends and family,” Castles said.

Drivers who sign on to the cause can wear the pink pants at Victorian race tracks for all of May.

Those who want to be involved need to partner with a sponsor, whose $400 will cover the cost of the pants that will feature the sponsors’ names as well as tip additional money into the McGrath Foundation fundraiser. The pairings will be celebrated at thetrots.com.au and across HRV’s media channels.

“It would be great to see races full of drivers wearing pink pants that will help raise awareness and money for a great cause,” Castles said.

"The race meeting at Shepparton on the 24th should be a fantastic evening with plenty of raffle prizes, guest speakers as well as some great products being donated to numerous runners in every race."

As part of the campaign, beanies and scarfs will also be available to purchase throughout May.

Sponsors and drivers wishing to support the cause should email HRV marketing coordinator Nikkita Ross via nross@hrv.org.au before Wednesday March 18. Drivers are encouraged to confirm a sponsor, but alternatively can just register their interest in being involved and potentially have a sponsor pared with them.
