Arty warms up for Borgata Series with third-straight US victory

Former Aussie champion pacer Lochinvar Art has continued his undefeated run in the US for harness racing husband and wife team Shane and Lauren Tritton.

And “Arty” looks primed for his next target in two weeks’ time, with heats of the rich Borgata Series kicking off at the Yonkers Paceway.

Lauren Tritton, who was held in high regard as a talented reinswoman back in her home country, didn’t bustle her horse off the gate at his latest Yonkers win yesterday, settling three back on the fence from a barrier one draw.

She made her move down the back straight for the final time, and joined the leader Covered Bridge in the “blink of an eye”.

Straightening for the run to the finish line, the two-time Victorian Horse of the Year looked in cruise mode with Tritton sitting as quiet as a church mouse with a firm hold.

“Some of the ones in that race today are paid up for the Borgata so we are going along okay,” she said.

Lochinvar Art, a seven-time Group 1 winner in Australia, has now completed a hat-trick in the US after scoring previously at the Meadowlands and Yonkers.

Bronte Nieuwenburg has done the form for tonight’s brilliant nine-race card at Bendigo, featuring the Hygain Breeders Crown heats for the two and three-year-old trotters.

There would be few people in Victorian harness racing who haven’t shared a philosophical chat, a laugh, or a moment of quiet wisdom with the much-loved Charlton horseman Joey Thompson, who has sadly passed after an extended illness.
