The well-worn adage patience is a virtue is certainly being borne out in the case of Pakenham trainer Bill Kucks and his handy trotting mare Whose Me Mum.
Kucks bought the daughter of Angus Hall and Susuwe at the Australasian Premier Trotting Sale at Melton in 2018 for $14,000 and she has returned over $20,000 in stakes so far.
However, it has not been all plain sailing for Whose Me Mum.
“She was very immature as a two-year-old,” Kucks said. “I made a few adjustments to her gear along the way and she’s now putting it all together.”
Whose Me Mum notched her third success when she finished strongly after enjoying a perfect trip at Melton on February 24.
A fortnight earlier, Kucks showed his faith in Whose Me Mum’s ability when he shelled out $11,000 for her Muscle Mass half-sister at the Australian Pacing Gold Melbourne sale.
Both were bred by well-known Sydney trotting enthusiast Michael Taylor, who bought their dam, Susuwe, from the late Kaye Kilgour at the end of her racing career. By Dream Vacation, Susuwe, who won five races, is a member of the same family as the NZ siring colossus Sundon.
APTS sale graduates Dont Care and Majestical Belle, both Vicbred trotting champions in 2020, and Van Sank, scored at Terang, Melton and Albion Park respectively last week.
