“That is one of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen.”
Those were the words of caller Dan Mielicki after Captain Ravishing produced one of the most remarkable performances ever seen at Tabcorp Park Melton in winning the Woodlands Stud Australia Breeders Crown final for three-year-old colts and geldings.
Despite sitting parked in the wet conditions, the Emma Stewart-trained speed machine bettered Lochinvar Art and Hurrican Harley’s joint 2240m track record with a stunning 28.8m win in 1:51.1.
The result gave Stewart her fourth Group 1 of the night and driver Mark Pitt his third.
Flash Jimmy (Matthew Craven/James Herbertson) ran second, with Interest Free (Julie Douglas/Daryl Douglas) third.
Woodlands Stud Breeders Crown for 3YO pacing colts and geldings champions:
Horse: Captain Ravishing
Trainer: Emma Stewart
Driver: Mark Pitt
Owner: H Taiba
Breeder: Sloys Company Pty Ltd
Breeding: By Captaintreacherous out of Ravishing Girl
THE RACE:
New South Wales driver Doug Hewitt tried his best to take the sting out of Captain Ravishing by rolling along at a good tempo with his top three-year-old Ripp, who found the early lead from barrier three.
But having to sit parked didn’t bother Emma Stewart’s megastar, as he absorbed the pressure and surged to the lead off the back straight before racing away to win by a big margin.
THE WINNING WORDS:
Mark Pitt: “It’s actually something special to sit behind a horse like this. I’ve sat behind many good horses in Ride High and a few others, I think this one is top of the tree that I’ve sat behind.”
