Leigh Sutton gave one of the all-time salutes as Egret crossed the line to provide him with his first Group 1 win as a driver in Saturday night's Woodlands Stud Australia Breeders Crown final for three-year-old trotting fillies.

The 37-year-old sprint-laned to victory in the $80,000 feature to cap the biggest moment in his career, which started in season 2002-03.

Sutton produced a perfect drive with the Anton Golino-trained filly, who charged home in the straight to score by almost 7m over Blake Fitzpatrick-trained Lindys Love, with favourite Aldebaran Keepa third.

The win was Egret's second at Group 1 level, with the daughter of Father Patrick having previously taken out the elite-level Trot NSW Three Year Old Final back in July.

THE RACE:

In a race full of moves, it was Egret that made the first and most decisive one.

Driver Leigh Sutton speared his charge away from gate five, found the top and then handed up his position at the front to stablemate Revelstoke.

With some jostling of positions from other runners, the solid early sections of 29.9 and 29.1 meant Egret was well poised when the sprint lane run appeared and she pounced on her opportunity in the straight.

The closing quarters of 28.5 and 29.6 set up an overall mile rate of 1:57.4.

Lindys Love settled three back on the pegs and hit the line strongly for second, with Aldebaran Keepa boxing on well after making a mid-race move from the back to sit parked for the last lap.
