Harness Racing Victoria (HRV) has today announced limited resumption of owner attendance at Tabcorp Park Melton meetings under COVIDSafe protocols for Friday, November 20, and Saturday November 21.

For the two Breeders Crown nights of racing this Friday and Saturday, a capped number of owners will have the opportunity to attend the trots when their horse is engaged to compete.

Owner attendance will be underpinned by the following essential protocols, which will be clearly outlined in direct communications with the Managing Owner of each horse racing at these meetings.

  • Only a registered owner with a horse engaged at either Melton on Friday November 20 or Saturday November 21 can under these protocols attend (attendance for registered owners is for business purposes; owners wishing to attend as regular patrons of Tabcorp Park can do so by booking directly via Tabcorp Park reception. Patrons are subject to different requirements, in line with Government guidelines for hospitality services).
  • Permitted arrival times will be managed by Tabcorp Park Melton and Harness Racing Victoria in line with the venue’s COVIDSafe plan.
  • Those with a role in running the business may attend including for ownership, sponsorship or governance purposes (not as spectators). Once duties are complete, they should leave the racecourse.
  • A maximum of 30 owners per race (two per horse) will be permitted with pre-registration required to enable contact tracing. In satisfying other protocols, Melton and HRV may not be able to welcome the maximum number of owners for each race.
  • Attending owners will be restricted to a designated area of the racecourse and will not be able to attend any other areas of the facility, including the horse stalls and hospitality areas.

Managing owners will receive information on how to register via email and text message and HRV and Tabcorp Park Melton will work with owners to ensure protocols are clear ahead of the Friday night and Saturday night.

HRV is currently in discussion with clubs around the return of owners at other venues and will communicate this to industry shortly.
