The TAB Breeders Crown fires up tonight with the Always B Miki two-year-old fillies' heats, and while Emma Stewart's stable looms large plenty of others are hoping to cap their long seasons with some royal success.

Among that number is Zac Phillips, who will pilot two knockout hopes in tonight's heats, with both Alice Kay for Adam Kelly and Askmeilltellya for Kat Warwick showing themselves to be competitive at the top level through the Alabar Vicbred Super Series.

Alice Kay lobbed gate six for tonight's first heat at Bendigo, outside Stewart's Vicbred Super Series winner (Maajida, gate 2) and runner-up (Amelia Rose, gate 5).

"She's a really nice filly, really consistent," Phillips said of Alice Kay. "She didn't race all that well in the (Vicbred Super Series) final, pulled up a little bit crook, but Adam (Kelly) seems happy with her since then.

"Once again she's drawn out in the car park, going to find it a little bit hard, but if a few things go wrong for the others she won't be far away."

While Phillips said, "like all of them", Alice Kay was probably coming to the end of her campaign, if she draws well during the Breeders Crown series she can threaten.

"She's got all the ability, she's probably not far behind in ability-wise," he said. "Sometimes heat racing when the favourite (Maajida) draws good and you draw bad it can turn into a procession. Hopefully that's not the case tonight."

Alice Kay was a $13 shot to win tonight's heat with TAB.com.au fixed odds at the time of publish and is marked a $7 chance with TAB.com.au to win the final in the futures' market.

Phillips other steer in this class, Askmeilltellya, is slightly longer at $21 for the series and also faces a tall order tonight, having drawn gate six in the second heat with Stewart's favourite Jemstone ($1.90) to start from gate one and Michael Stanley's impressive last start winner Iolanta ($2) looming large despite drawing outside the back row.

"She's a really honest filly," Phillips said of Askmeilltellya. "She's probably just that step below the real topliners, but she's the sort of horse if she drew a gate in the final, she can follow any speed and be a knockout chance. It's probably going to be hard for her tonight. She's going to need a fair bit of luck."
