Young gun NSW driver Cam Hart will make a surprise trip from Sydney to Melton to reunite with star pacer Bay Of Biscay on Saturday night.

The last-start Group 1 Chariots Of Fire winner is one of six drives Hart has snared for Australia’s most powerful stable, Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin, at Melton.

“I had a few drives at Menangle, but they were sort of week-to-week horses and I’ve got the chance to drive some serious horsepower at Melton, so I jumped at the chance,” Hart said.

“It’ll be great to get back aboard Bay Of Biscay, especially the big races he’s got ahead of him in coming months.”

Bay Of Biscay, who hasn’t raced since winning the Chariots Of Fire at Menangle on March 1, will head straight to Brisbane next week for the $350,000 Group 1 Rising Sun at Albion Park on Saturday week.

Beyond that, he is clear favourite for the world’s richest harness race, the $2.1mil TAB Eureka at Menangle on September 6.

“I love him. I drove him at three and he was really good, but he’d improved again when I drove him earlier this year,” Hart said.

“If he can improve that bit again, he’s going to have a fantastic next couple of years.

“I saw his latest trial and, even though he got it easy early, he looked very sharp finishing it off.”

Hart’s other Melton drives are: Kingman (race two), Let Her Roll (race three), Fox Dan (race four), Storms Collide (race five) and Knight Fury Dan (race 10).

IT will be a clash of a master and the apprentice when star pacers Catch A Wave and Bay Of Biscay clash for the first time in the opening race at Melton.

Catch A Wave is Victoria’s best pacer and spring-boarded to eight Group 1 wins and over $2.2 million in earnings when he won the Chariots Of Fire two years ago.

Bay Of Biscay’s connections are hoping he does the same thing after his Chariots Of Fire.

Like Bay Of Biscay, Catch A Wave will head straight to Brisbane after this week. He will have his first taste of the iconic Inter Dominion series when he tackles the opening round of heats on Saturday week.

The pair clashed in a recent Melton trial where Bay Of Biscay led throughout and won, but Catch A Wave rocketed home from well back and ran at least as well as the winner.

Like the trial, Bay Of Biscay has the better of the barrier in gate five. Catch A Wave will start from two-out on the back row (gate 10).

There’s a strong chance Bay Of Biscay will work forward and find the lead, which would give him a huge advantage.

Catch A Wave is the first leg of a huge Brisbane-bound double for the Andy and Kate Gath stable.

The second is multiple Group 1-winning trotter Callmethebreeze, who returns from more than eight months out with injury.

Trainer Andy Gath was much happier with Callmethebreeze’s second Melton trial last Tuesday week and only a poor performance Saturday night would derail Brisbane plans.

“Look, he’s been a challenge, I’m not denying that, but he’s the best we’ve had him all preparation,” Gath said.

“He’s drawn well in what looks a suitable race and he’s got his chance.

“It’s an even trotting series this year and we all know his best would be good enough to win it, so we’re keen to go if he runs as well as we hope this week.”
