Winners during tonight’s nine-race meeting at Shepparton will mean just a little bit more for Tasmyn Potter as she looks to secure a spot in the 2024 Young Guns Series.

Potter sits one win outside the cut-off point for a place in the New Year’s Eve race meeting, which will see Victoria’s 10 leading under-25 drivers based on wins to midnight November 30 battle it out in a series of ratings-exempt races.

James Herbertson (344 wins), Ryan Sanderson (93), Jordan Leedham (62), Luke Dunne (60), Lochie Cook (54), Ryan Backhouse (52), Ewa Justice (50) and Liam Older (44) appear locks for the Melton Entertainment Park showdown, with the remaining two spots to be fought for by Sean O’Sullivan (38), Connor Clarke (37) and Potter (36).

Potter has seven drives tonight at Shepparton, while O’Sullivan has one. Clarke won’t return to race driving until Wednesday evening at Bendigo when he partners Salski in the opening event.

The 22-year-old Potter felt Honest Harriette, for father Wayne, and the Ian Livermore-trained Wind Sock were her leading chances for success tonight.

“I think I’ve got a couple that shouldn’t be too far away,” she said.

“I thought if Honest Harriette got a nice run on the fence and was close enough, she would be thereabouts.

“Wind Sock has been going well lately. If he ends up in a handy spot, he shouldn’t be far away if he goes like he can.”

Potter said she would love to score enough wins in the coming days to secure a spot in the 2024 Young Guns Series.

“I went and watched last year - it was an enjoyable night,” Potter said. “The food vans and kids’ activities made it very family friendly.

“I think it’s nice for under-25 drivers to be able to look forward to an event like this on a pretty big night.”

Potter has drives right through the week at Maryborough on Wednesday, Kilmore on Thursday and Melton on both Friday and Saturday nights.
