Beeac trainer Courtney Slater hopes her trotter Victree Hill delivers on the potential he has shown when he steps out in tomorrow’s De Bortoli Yarra Valley Trotters Cup.
Slater and partner Mark Driscoll have taken plenty of time with the five-year-old son of Trixton and the trainer told Toby McKinnon on SENTrack’s TrotsLife today the penny had started to drop.
“He has always been a pretty nice little trotter, he’s just had his irks and quirks along the way,” she said.
“We’ve been trying to get a start couple of weeks previous, obviously because he hasn’t started in town before it’s made it tough to get a run.
“So it was actually good to get a run in Geelong Cup to show he is up to them. Mark was giving Glen (Craven) instructions on Geelong Cup night to drive him nice and quiet, let him settle, which he did. You look back, if he had have been any closer or not sat on the fence he would have been close (to challenging).
“In saying that we were still rapt with fifth, rapt that he got around and did everything right. He should be competitive come Yarra Valley Cup tomorrow.”
Having only had 25 starts the gelding is the lowest assessed horse in the race, but after a promising performance in the Geelong McNamara Trotters Cup he just may take what appears a gigantic next step.
