Captain Hammerhead books a spot in The Rising Sun

A 1,700km road trip awaits David Moran and Captain Hammerhead after the four-year-old booked his ticket for Queensland’s $355,000 Group 1, The Rising Sun.

The son out of Rogers Passion proved his credentials with a strong showing in Saturday night’s Allied Express Pace at Melton Entertainment Park.

Moran is thankful to have a runner in the Group 1 event.

“It is just good to be a part of it,” Moran said.

The logistics of taking the four-year-old over the east-coast of Australia remains the biggest obstacle.

“It is a little bit of a (shame) when you can’t go by flight and have to go by road,” he said. “It will be a little bit of a process organising the travel.

“The flight has been cancelled and that was the original plan, they had to cancel the flight because they had insufficient horses.”

The 36-year-old is set to stagger the trip up north ahead of the July 13th, Group 1.

“I will probably do it over a few days, I would look to go to Sydney for a day and then do the second half of the trip,” he said.

Captain Hammerhead will join the likes of The Lost Storm as fellow Victorians locked in for the $355,000 event.

The son by CaptainTrecherous has had four wins from 11-starts in season 2024.
