Catch A Wave working his way towards August return

One of the hottest horses in Australian harness racing remains “in a bit of a holding pattern” as he works towards some of the big features at the back end of the year.

Dual Group 1 winner Catch A Wave has not raced since his success in the elite level APG Vic Gold Bullion 3YO Colts and Geldings Final during May, with trainer Andy Gath just ticking him along before a return to the track sometime next month.

Gath told thetrots.com.au that Catch A Wave was in full work at his Long Forest stables and was expected to trial and race sometime in August.

Major aims for the three-year-old include the Victoria Derby, Breeders Crown Series and Vicbred Super Series, while bookmakers are keeping the son of Captaintreacherous safe for the inaugural TAB Eureka next year.

The TAB has Catch A Wave as a $9 equal favourite for the world’s richest harness race, a $2.1million event scheduled for Menangle in September 2023.

Catch A Wave has been beaten just once in his 10-start career, with his biggest triumph coming in the Breeders Crown 2YO Colts and Geldings Final in November last year.
