Charlton win shows this ‘Bigmen’s all grown up

Big plans could be in the path of an Emma Stewart four-year-old who’s stepping out from the shadows of a deep and talented class.

Having often trailed the likes of Centenario, Hurricane Harley, Lochinvar Art or Demon Delight to date, the rise and rise of Fourbigmen took a significant step in Sunday’s Charlton and District Community Bank Pacing Cup, when he notched the first Group level victory of his career.

And part-owner Tom Hogan said the pursuit of more Trots Country Cups Championship silverware could well be in his path.

“I think this horse, all going well, will probably go on to Mildura,” Mr Hogan told Trots Vision. “We will see. He’s only four years-old, he’ll improve with these runs.

“He’s matured a lot, improving all the time and hopefully he can go on as a four-year-old and reach the next step. Hopefully he can make Group 1 and this is the grounding of it, the Charlton Cup.”

Reinsman Greg Sugars took advantage of his front line draw on Sunday to put Fourbigmen into the lead, where first stablemate Born To Rocknroll sidled to the breeze and then favourite Pat Stanley.

That quality on his hip ensured an honest pace before Fourbigmen stretched his rivals with a 27.1-second third quarter then saw off all challenges to win by 3.4 metres, getting home in a 28.1-second final quarter to secure the $35,000 crown.

“It looked a pretty good race for him” Sugars told Trots Vision. “He was probably going to get a good run in transit in front, if he was good enough to hold them off (from) in front he would have every chance and that was how it worked out. Good job by all concerned.”

Sugars said while Fourbigmen wasn’t the standout of his sale class, “he was right there with them every step of the way”.

“He’s been here, there and everywhere and raced in a lot of good races for the majority of his career. Quite often those horses when you see them, they are good juveniles and sometimes they don’t go on to reach country cup or open class company but this guy has probably held that form and continued to improve as he got older and more mature.

“He going to be a force to be reckoned with, all going well, in these sort of races for the next season or so.”

Fourbigmen was co-bred by Wayne Schulze. Click here for his trots story.
