Steve Cleave is hoping he can help grow the next generation of harness racing fans through a new website created to make getting involved in ownership quick and simple.

The well-known trainer-driver has today launched Racehorse Ownership Opportunities, an online space for existing owners and syndicators to advertise shares in raced and unraced pacers and trotters.

Racehorse Ownership Opportunities will display various horses from multiple sources, allowing prospective buyers to browse the catalogue, select their favourite option and then quickly engage with the seller.

“I have built the website in a way that makes it so easy for anyone interested in racehorse ownership to view all of the horses with shares available before deciding if they would like to be involved,” Cleave said.

“If so, they can get in direct contact with the person advertising to discuss and make their purchase.”

Cleave said he wanted the new website to be a realestate.com.au version of racehorse ownership.

“Trainers and syndicators have their own websites just like real estate agents, but people are time poor and don’t want to search through heaps of different sites trying to find a horse that suits their needs,” he said.

“We want to bring them all into one centralised platform, making it much easier for potential owners to view what is out there and available.”

Cleave stressed that the platform was not a place to move horses, rather one for buying and selling ownership shares.

“Any owner or syndicator that wants to sell shares in their horse can advertise. There are certain rules that do apply when it comes to advertising shares for sale, but we can help with that process,” he said.

Cleave will be onsite at Oaklands Junction for the Nutrien Equine Standardbred Yearling Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
