Lochinvar Art's foot abscess remains a significant cause for concern, with the champion pacer still battling the issue that forced him out of the Miracle Mile.

Kialla trainer David Moran told thetrots.com.au that the star entire, a winner of 28 races and more than $1.3 million, was still significantly lame a month on from his withdrawal out of Australia's richest race.

Moran said the horse had been taken for an MRI scan on veterinary advice, and while it showed the abscess hadn't reached the bone, a decision was made to try and assist the healing process.

"They have made an incision into his foot to try and release some pressure because it’s just very strange it has taken so long to come out," Moran said.

"They are hoping now over the next 48 hours that that will relieve the pressure and draw it to one spot of his foot."

Moran said it was extremely rare that an abscess would take so long to burst and believed surgery would likely be the next step if the incision failed to improve the situation.

"If it doesn't then the next thing obviously is to dig away and pray to God that we don't cause any dramas," he said.

Lochinvar Art's last racetrack appearance was in the $500,000 Del-Re National A.G. Hunter Cup at Tabcorp Park Melton on February 6, which he won to claim a seventh Group 1 success.
