Harness Racing Victoria’s emerging TrotsVision and thetrots.com.au platforms are continuing to attract a new and younger audience to the sport.

A review of the first six months of 2022 found that 41% of the overall audience at the site was aged 18-44, compared to the same period in 2019 when that age bracket made up just 21% of overall audience.

Year on year for the six-month period, the 18-44-year-old bracket has grown annually since 2019, at 32% in 2020 and 37.5% in 2021.

Meanwhile, the 18-24-year-old bracket has grown from just 2% of overall audience in 2019 to make up 11% of overall audience today.

For the first time, the first half of this year saw the 18-34-year-old age group overtake the 65+ segment with 25% of overall audience versus 21%.

Unique website users have grown for the first half year on year since the site was launched in 2018, meaning thetrots.com.au and TrotsVision are attracting a bigger audience and a younger audience each year.

“These trends are continued evidence of the power of a contemporary digital first content strategy and the evolution of TrotsVision as a platform,” HRV GM Media and Communications Cody Winnell said.

“We’re attracting a younger audience. New people are watching our races and engaging with our content, which is obviously great news for the industry."

This Saturday night Jason Bonnington will be joined by Steve Cleave and AFL star Josh Jenkins for live TrotsVision coverage from Tabcorp Park Melton.

Victoria's feature racing season kicks off in October and this year takes in the Victorian Inter Dominion carnival.
