Country cup star close to return, Inter Dom tilt a possibility

Kate Hargreaves will be tempted to try airborne squaregaiter Well Defined in the Inter Dominion Championships late this year if he can recapture his dominant form of last preparation.

The star of the 2021 country cup circuit is back fast working, with the Shelbourne trainer confident he will be ready to trial by the end of July or early August.

“I’m really happy with him so far. He’s bright and full of energy,” she said.

“The break did him the world of good.”

Well Defined won a staggering five cup features through the early part of this year, culminating with his success at Mildura in early April before being sent for a spell.

The plan is for the six-year-old to continue tackling the country cups, and Hargreaves isn’t ruling out a tilt at the sport’s biggest series in New South Wales through November and December.

“If he recaptures his form, I’ll consider the Inter Dom. He’s not a great traveller so we will have to weigh it up as we go along,” Hargreaves said.

“The Inter Dom format will suit him down to the ground. He would thrive in a series like that.”

Well Defined, who is part-owned by Hargreaves’ brother Brett, has won 16 of 76 career starts, with earnings now up over the $150,000 mark.

Hargreaves and Flick, as he is affectionately known, were the subjects of a special video production created by Paul Campbell from Campbell’s Comments. The video features a spin around Hargreaves’ Shelbourne property and a discussion about how she trains the star squaregaiter.
