Given they're rivals on the racetrack, it's not often that trainer-driver David Murphy would call on the advice of fellow horseman Glenn Conroy (pictured with daughter Lyndal).

But he's made an exception for a passion away from harness racing.

The two teamed up to co-write a song which has formed part of Old Melbourne Road's newest album, Proper.

Murphy, who is one of seven members of the band, put together the initial stages of the song before leaning on his mate one day at the trots.

"I came up with the tune and the chorus, and I knew Glenn was pretty clever at poetry and that sort of stuff. He's a clever man, Glenn," Murphy told RSN's Cracking The Codes.

"I said to him one day at the trots: 'I've got a tune and it's about a fella who needs to make a quick getaway'. That’s what the chorus was about.

"I recorded myself playing the little chorus that I had and a day or two later he gives me a sheet of paper at the trots. It had a few lyrics on it. It was kind of like in poem form, so I put my chorus to his lyrics, changed things around a bit and that's the song..."

The song is known as Quick And Clean, which can be heard and purchased here.

Warren Cochrane and Bronwyn Daubé were also part of the weekend's Cracking The Codes show, joining Dan Mielicki, Matt Stewart and Simone Fisher to chat about their story with horses and the journey of Cobé Lodge, which specialises in the early education of thoroughbreds, standardbreds, sport horses and pleasure harness.
