Ellen Tormey is hoping to strike one off her “bucket list” when she partners Ultimate Vinnie in the Community Bank Charlton Pacing Cup on Sunday.

The accomplished reinswoman finished third on the Julie Douglas-trained Ideal Escape last year in her hometown cup.

“It’s a race I’d really like to win although I don’t think I’ve had that many drives in it,” Tormey said.

Tormey has joined forces with the Sam Barker-trained Ultimate Vinnie on two previous occasions; finishing third in the 2023 Stawell Cup and seventh in last year’s Ballarat Cup.

“When he’s at his best he’s right up there,” she said.

“He was super in winning the SA Cup and he hit the line hard in the Ballarat Cup.”

Tormey said she would let the race unfold as she navigates her way around the 2570-metre journey from Ultimate Vinnie’s outside back row draw.

“I’ll see what Sam wants to do, and I think a lot will depend on the tempo of the race,” she said.

“He is pretty versatile, so if they go slow then he is capable of sitting in the chair or if they run along, he can finish off his races strongly.”

Tormey believes there are several main dangers.

“Dangerous has been going well up in Sydney against the top horses and Jilliby Nitro was a good run in the Terang Cup. There are a few up-and-comers like Dee Roe, so it’s a nice enough race,” she said.

The Shane Sanderson-trained pair of Dangerous ($2.25 fav) and Catalpa Rescue ($4) head the betting, along with Dee Roe ($4), Jilliby Nitro ($5) and Ultimate Vinnie ($12).

Tormey also has a strong hand in the North West Ag Services Charlton Trotters Cup with the Alex Ashwood-trained Parisian Artiste ($1.50 fav), who is the lone 30-metre back marker.

Tormey was on board when the seven-year-old finished runner-up to Aldebaran Zeus at Melton before having no luck in last week’s McNamara Memorial Trotters Cup at Geelong after locking wheels on the home turn.

“He was going to at least run second at Geelong before Kerryn (Manning) and I locked wheels on the turn,” she said.

“He felt super in the run and he is ready to go, he can make his own luck in the race.”

Tormey is aiming for her second Charlton Trotters Cup success having saluted on The Boss Man in 2018.
