Ewen upbeat as Bulletproof Boy lines up in Hunter Cup

There will be plenty of people hoping for no bad luck this week, but none more so than Scott Ewen.

To be more precise, Ewen is hoping for no more bad luck for the remainder of the week heading into Saturday night’s A G Hunter Cup in Melton.

Set to contest last season’s edition with stable star Bulletproof Boy, Ewen was left gutted when he had to scratch the son of Art Official just days before the Group One.

Bulletproof Boy ruled himself out of the time-honoured feature by injuring his leg.

“Everything was going smoothly, then two days before the Cup he hurt his hock,” Ewen said. “We copped it there, but that’s racing!”

Although the sprightly 11-year-old in “peak condition”, Ewen was disappointed after Bulletproof Boy “copped it” in the barrier draw.

To be driven by James Herbertson, Bulletproof Boy will begin from the outside of the front row – barrier seven.

“He is feeling terrific within himself,” Ewen said. “In fact, he won his trial this morning and I was very pleased with his run.

“We have copped it with the draw, so hopefully the bad luck is behind us and it’s all good moving forward.

“The draw has made it tough, so we’ll be wanting them to go hard upfront early and give an opportunist like him to finish over the top at the end.”
