There is a growing acceptance of French trotting blood by Australian breeders who have recognised the worth of introducing the genes of Europe’s most successful sirelines to a broodmare pool with predominantly colonial blood.
This is the opinion of prominent breeder-owner and benefactor Pat Driscoll, the principal of Haras Des Trotteurs, one of Australasia’s leading standardbred nurseries.
“It has taken five or six years but I believe the French bloodlines are now a legitimate source of trotting blood here in Australia,” Driscoll said.
“New Zealand breeders were far quicker than their Australian counterparts to identify that the French bloodlines can improve their breed.”
The deeds of Monet, Enghien, Habibti, Im Ready Set, Dont Care, Always Ready, Hopeful Beauty, Just Believe and others on racetracks in NZ and Australia certainly underline the value of French trotting blood.
“Ready Cash and Love You line sires bring speed and stamina to the breed,” Driscoll stated.
“Ready Cash is internationally regarded as the best sire ever to stand stud in France.”
In Australia, Ready Cash has sired the 2YO Trotter of the Year and Breeders Crown champion Always Ready, All Cashed Up (NSW Foundation 2YO) and the promising Namoscar from relatively small numbers.
No less than 12 of the 14 stallions on the Haras Des Trotteurs’ roster carry the blood of Ready Cash or Love You.
Ready Cash has six of his sons in their lineup headed up by Bold Eagle and Bird Parker – both champion French trotters of their day – En Solitaire, Eridan, Always Ready and Hopeful Beauty’s sire, Brilliantissime.
Love You, the leading three-year-old trotting sire in Australia last season, is available at Haras Des Trotteurs along with his sons Quaker Jet – the sire of undisputed trotting queen Im Ready Jet – Classic Connection and the Swedish bred Dreamcatcher.
Coktail Jet, the sire of Love You, ranks as the sire of The Best Madrik and the damsire of Used To Me, both members of the Haras Des Trotteurs’ team.
